Limp Bizkit has a cover of The Who’s Behind Blue Eyes on their new album. I’m not sure if I like it. The album, called Results May Vary is ok, there are only one or two songs that really feel manufactured for the radio. Their cover of Behind Blue Eyes isn’t horrible, they didn’t butcher it, it might grow on me. The song does some weird stuff around the end though. I remember picking up their first album before they took off, it was good metal. I like some of the stuff on the second album, then they stopped doing much for me. This is alright.

Oh, there’s more
I think it’s more fun to be a resident of Ontario than a resident of California. Our leadership race with two candidates provides more entertainment than a field of 130 laced with actors. Check out this article on some of the mudslinging in Ontario’s election race. This is a copy of the actual email that was sent by a staffer at Ernie Eves’ campain headquarters:
Subject: Dear Mister McGuinty
Dear Mister McGuinty
An Occasional Bulletin from Ernie Eves Campaign Headquarters
September 12, 2003
There came a fork in “the high road.” The Liberals took it.
“Ernie Eves is either incompetent and doesn’t know his own platform, or he is purposely misleading Ontario voters.”
— Deputy Liberal Leader Sandra “Better Angels of our Nature” Pupatello, September 12, 2003“The Eves government isn’t just incompetent. It can actually put you in the hospital – or worse.”
— Hamilton Mountain Liberal MPP Marie “Is Everybody Happy?” Bountrogianni, September 11, 2003“You can’t trust Ernie Eves when it comes to nuclear safety.”
— St. Paul’s Liberal MPP Michael “China Syndrome” Bryant, September 11, 2003These jolly, positive, “Who-me-fear-monger?” pronouncements beg a simple question:
“Who really speaks for the Ontario Liberal Party?
Dalton McGuinty. He’s an evil reptilian kitten eater from another planet. (sorry)
There isn’t a whole lot to the article, other than Eves not actually retracting the statement, rather acknowledging that it was over the top and that his staffers should be given less coffee.
Fuck, the night is young!
You are Slackware Linux. You are the brightest among your peers, but are often mistaken as insane. Your elegant solutions to problems often take a little longer, but require much less effort to complete.
Bring the funny
It was a long day/night at the paper… it wasn’t a long issue, but we did a lot of short gags, a lot of comics and such. It was torturously hot in EngSoc with all the computers running, all the people, all the humidity and whatever other crap decided to throw itself into the mix. It’s hard to produce good content, when you’re all hot and sticky and sweaty. Things started being more productive later in the evening. I’m not looking forward to the winter months, but I think the fall will be better for efficient newspaper production.
I need to do a computer ethics paper/presentation now. It’s not hard, only 400-500 words and 2-3 minute presentation. My topic for the week is online fraud. If you have any good links kicking around let me know. It’s not actually due until Tuesday afternoon, but I have a group meeting tomorrow night. I guess that I’ll probably actually end up working on it sometime tomorrow afternoon.
Bits
In the era of heightened US national security, it’s nice to know that someone can still mail themself across the country in a box. It’s also nice to see that someone is willing to avoid gouging their customers.
School seems to have started in full swing. My schedule isn’t too bad, I ended up with no classes starting before 11. I’ll probably have to get myself up earlier so I can actually get things accomplished. The second issue of Golden Words came out today. I would have liked to have seen it bigger, but it ended up being a long drawn out night. We’ll start getting more content from our writers as they get back into the groove. It’s shaping up to be a solid year.
Tick tock
The school year is approaching quickly and half the shit I wanted to get finished this summer never got started. You see all these drunken assholes sitting around on their front porch all day harassing the frosh, thinking it might be nice to be doing jack all. I’ve had this newspaper thing to get underway; it’s a big promotion time. Today was just downtime, it’s been pretty busy for the last little while.
I figured out the courses the courses that I want to take this year and got registered for all of them. There’s still a couple of grey areas that will play out once things get rolling. There’s and image processing and graphics course that I want to take but the time slot is ass. I should go sell my old textbooks soon too.

Three oranges and a pile of mangos
I’m starting to get back into the swing of things, the newspaper is already starting to eat up time. The first PressNite is this coming sunday, hopefully everything runs smoothly. I’ve been relaxing, trying to have some downtime before things get crazy.
So not…
The Sex Pistols concert happened but didn’t so much happen for us, we left the tickets in the car. Oh well, I wasn’t too attached to the idea of going, it was more of a, “Hey, the Sex Pistols are still sort of alive and playing, I should probably see them.” Ended up having a good time regardless, just chilling in downtown Toronto, I had a good time.
One of the better parts of the pseudo-weekend was seeing Buffalo Soldiers, one of the best things I’ve seen in a long time. I need to see it again, but so far it’s only opened in limited release despite that fact that it’s been in the can for almost two years. It’s good, if you know somewhere that’s playing it, you should go see it. You should also bring some rum or something with you and pour it into the movie theatre cup. Putting a bar in a movie theatre is a brilliant idea.
I can see why they avoided releasing it for awhile, it’s pretty anti-military. Something the country doesn’t need right now! They held off after 9/11 and after the whole Iraqi war thing. Anyway go see it, I laughed a lot out loud. It takes a lot for a movie to do that to me anymore.
So sad…
Freddy vs. Jason was tops at the box office this weekend, raking in over thirteen mil. Wow! And it suffered a drop of over 60%. It really says a lot about the movie industry. I blame it all on the text messaging.
